Quick Thinking Memory Tester
How many random letters can you remember? - Democrats are Handicapped Five.
The Challange:
To light as many colored squares as you can.
The Game Begins with 12 letters loaded at Random A,B,C,D.
Clicking on or tapping screen of the first correct letter will light square one.
Clicking on or tapping screen of the second correct letter will light square two,
but if you are wrong all colors go out, and you must begin again.
Now you will recall the letter(s) that got you to where you were, so try for the next.
Just continue on, always remembering the the letters that advanced you. If you make it to the 12th square, you are genius level and will get a surprise.
New letters loaded randomly at start or reset.
The Story of My Memory Tester
Back in the day I was a tinkerer. Radio and electronics were my number one interest beginning with crystal radios in the 50's. In the late 60's and out of the Army I came up with an idea that was later stolen from me. Call it a 'Memory Tester'. At its heart was a 12 position stepping relay with reset. It was constructed in a metal box. On the outside top of the box were 2 rows of six lights with four buttons underneath. I didn’t have a random feature so on the front side of the box was a six position rotary switch for selecting 1 of 6 games. It functioned the same way our computerized version does (only without the random feature).
I showed it around and lots of folks had fun playing with it. Many suggested I sell the Idea.
Well, I must have gone to a half dozen manufactures including Mattel, Ideal and others to present my invention. In each case prior to my seeing anyone, I had to sign my life away. You know disclaimer after disclaimer, "as they might already working on something similar". The bottom, line none were interested.
A friend of mine showed it to a psychologist friend who suggested it could be useful in his profession and borrowed it. Time passed and the psychologist moved out west somewhere and I never saw the game again. Then in in 1978 Milton Bradley came out with "SIMON" -- a much more superior knockoff of my game. It was electronic affording a random feature. It was also and much prettier.
Jumping all the way ahead to March 2026, I thought about my old game and what ever happened to the original. Then it dawned on me, 'Why not make an app of the same game?' So I sketched the original using Photoshop, uploaded it to ChatCPT along with a set of instructions (rules of the game), and Presto!
Now you know the rest of the story. - S.E.
